Send the Light is an undated work written by Charles H. Gabriel. This religious hymn was sung beautifully during Sunday worship in The Zion Mennonite Church.
The refrain is the following:
“Send the light, the blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore to shore!
Send the light, the blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine forevermore!”
The Mennonite community at Zion sang it during their church service. It was sung as part of a group of songs and took place towards the beginning of the service. Often during the singing we saw men raising their hands up in the air. Almost everybody, if not everybody, was singing in the church! There was a great participation level. Additionally, there were three singers on the stage with microphones. They did a great job. The lyrics to the songs were sometimes presented on the wall with a projector and/or were found in the hymn/song books in the back of the pews. This made it easy to sing along!
